More Than 1K Coronavirus Cases In Jefferson County Over Weekend
From Nov. 13-15, Jefferson County reported more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases as the virus continues to spread in the area.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — As cases of COVID-19 continue to spike throughout the country, Jefferson County saw a significant increase in new cases of the virus over the weekend, reporting more than 1,000 new cases Nov. 13-15.
Friday, Alabama reported 2,980 new COVID-19 cases, with 451 of those coming from Jefferson County. Officials with the Alabama Department of Public Health said they believe the spike in cases can be traced to Halloween gatherings, sporting events and school and work gatherings.

- Nov. 13: 451 new cases
- Nov. 14: 315 new cases
- Nov. 15: 305 new cases
- Nov. 16: 256 new cases
The county also reported seven deaths from the virus over the weekend. In the last week, Jefferson County has confirmed 58 COVID-19 deaths, with 33 of those fatalities reported in one day.
November has seen a massive surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths throughout the state, and more specifically in Jefferson County. With the month just half over, Jefferson County has confirmed 77 deaths in November, compared to 19 deaths in all of October.
