More Than 50 Candidates Vying For Birmingham Police Chief
After the retirement of Birmingham Chief of Police A.C. Roper, there are now 51 different candidates vying for his position.

Birmingham, AL - mayor Randall Woodfin might have a full calendar in the next few months, if the number of candidates vying for the vacant Chief of Police position stays the same or gets any larger. A total of 51 candidates are trying to take the helm of Birmingham's police force after the retirement of A.C. Roper February 16. Roper announced his retirement in November but stayed on temporarily to ease transition.
According to a report by Alabama Media Group, the deadline to apply for the position was March 1. Woodfin announced in January that the city had contracted with Sienna Consulting to conduct a national search for police chief and other department heads.
Woodfin has not officially announced a date by which he will hire a new chief.
