National Burger Day: The Best Burgers In Birmingham
Memorial Day this year is also National Burger Day, and Birmingham has some of the best burgers in the South.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Monday is Memorial Day, of course, but it is also National Burger Day this year. Americans consume an estimated 50 billion burgers every year, making it account for more than 40 percent of all sandwiches consumed in the country.
Hamburgers originated in Hamburg, Germany, which explains the sandwich's name despite not having any ham in the recipe. In the early 1800s the first beef meatballs were consumed, and it was the Germans who brought hamburger into the United States.
The hamburger as we know it now is said to have originated in Connecticut, and the ever-popular cheeseburger is said to have originated in the 1920s in Pasadena when a cook added a thin slice of cheese to the hamburger he was preparing.
