New Coronavirus Cases Below 1,000 A Day In Alabama Last 2 Weeks

Alabama's daily average for new coronavirus cases has dipped blow 1,00 again after a surge earlier in the month.

MONTGOMERY, AL — After a spike in new reported COVID-19 cases in Alabama at the beginning of the month, the Alabama Department of Public Health reported Friday that the state is now below 1,000 new cases per day over the last two weeks.

The state has confirmed 13,613 new cases of the virus over the last 14 days, bringing daily average to 972 cases. The state has confirmed 2,496 deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March.

The spike seen earlier in the month may not have been an indication of any sort of trend, as the ADPH said Monday that in some instances, ADPH was not aware of some of the testing laboratories, and these labs were not familiar with mandatory reporting of notifiable diseases.

"We had an entity transmit data on October 2 which increased our daily number of cases for October 2 and our cumulative total for our October 3 dashboard update," the ADPH said. Hence, many of the newly reported cases last week could have been cases from several weeks ago.

Since March, 1,196,452 diagnostic COVID-19 tests have been administered, with 143,900 of those tests coming back positive. The ADPH says 71,240 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus.
