- A Fultondale officer and another driver were injured in a crash on I-65. The officer was responding to a call with his car lights and siren on, when a 2011 Nissan Juke struck the back of the vehicle. Both the officer and driver were taken to the hospital for treatment, and the investigation is ongoing. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- Mayor Woodfin appointed a new acting Chief of Police to replace Chief Patrick Smith who resigned for personal matters. Captain Scott Thurmond, the new Chief of Police, is a veteran with the BPD where he helped launch a special task force that successfully moved guns off the street and focused on high engagement on cases. He contributed to the 25% crime reduction in the West Precinct. (Press Release Desk)
- A 17-year-old boy was killed when at least 38 shots were fired in Birmingham, and he is the 3rd city schools student slain this month. Javarius Reid, De'Undray Nakil Haggard, and Yasmine Wright were just three victims out of 13 in Jefferson County. Police are asking anyone with information in Javarius Reid's death to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. (AL.com)
- It's looking like a mild week here in Birmingham, weather-wise, with high temperatures expected to remain in the 60s through Thursday. Later in the week, we may see some thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 27 mph. (Birmingham Patch)
