Expert weighs in on measuring Birmingham's violence reduction plan (abc3340.com) — Birmingham residents are seeing a sharp drop in homicides this year, with 29 killings through late August, down 45% from the same period last year, while aggravated assaults remain nearly unchanged. As the city launches a five-year violence reduction plan, an outside expert says neighbors should closely watch homicide and nonfatal shooting trends to judge whether the strategy is truly working.
