1. Birmingham neighbors divided over permanent East Lake safety barriers (wbrc.com) — East Lake residents in Birmingham are split over permanent traffic barriers that city leaders say have helped reduce crime, even as some neighbors complain about inconvenience and rerouted drives. A Birmingham councilor reports crime statistics are trending down, but the city plans to keep the barriers in place for now while officials further review their impact.

2. Birmingham council approves Ensley lounge liquor license despite opposition (abc3340.com) — Birmingham City Council has approved a liquor license for P Legendary, a proposed lounge in Ensley near the CrossPlex, despite neighborhood opposition over litter, loitering and safety. Council heard concerns about past nuisance lounges at the same site, while the new owners pledged cameras, a safety plan and direct contacts for complaints as residents prepare to monitor the business closely.

3. 'It's about time': Grocery store returning to Birmingham's Woodland Park after nearly 3 years (wvtm13.com) — Residents of Birmingham's Woodland Park neighborhood are finally getting a full-service grocery store back, as Carver Jones Market opens today in Heritage Plaza after nearly three years without nearby fresh food. The store, backed by city involvement, aims to tackle food desert challenges with affordable produce, meat, and future amenities like a coffee shop and pharmacy, keeping more grocery dollars in the neighborhood.

4. More Than a Tech Conference: Why Church Production Teams Should Attend CFX (churchproduction.com) — A national Church Facilities Expo is coming to the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex Sept. 14–16, bringing church production, facilities, and leadership teams together for training and a trade show. Birmingham-area churches can attend team-focused sessions, hands-on masterclasses, and a film festival, all designed to improve technology decisions, volunteer development, and ministry coordination back home.

5. Expert weighs in on measuring Birmingham's violence reduction plan (abc3340.com) — Birmingham residents are seeing a sharp drop in homicides this year, with 29 killings through late August, down 45% from the same period last year, while aggravated assaults remain nearly unchanged.
