BIRMINGHAM, AL — The entire state saw record-setting numbers of new COVID-19 cases this past week, and Jefferson County was among the leaders in the state for new cases. Some of the highest daily totals for new cases of virus were recorded in the satte and in Jefferson County over the last seven days.

Also in the news this past week, shots were fired between a suspected burglar and a police officer at a local church.
