Reward Offered In Brinks Truck Robbery

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information regarding the robbery of a Brinks truck on Christmas Eve.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A robbery Christmas Eve of a Brinks armored truck outside a Birmingham ATM is still unsolved, and authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. The incident occurred in Roebuck outside a BBVA Compass ATM. The holdup happened at 8:20 a.m. at the stand-alone ATM in the 9200 block of Parkway East.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. and Birmingham Police chief Patrick Smith on Monday announced the reward in hopes of getting information that will lead to the arrest and indictment for those responsible, according to an Alabama Media Group report.

The robbers were dressed in dark clothing, neon vests and gloves. The vests were similar to traffic control or construction vests. Authorities said a security guard blocked the entrance and exit of the driveway with the armored vehicle. As the security guard was servicing the ATM, two black males quickly approached.

One of the robbers sprayed the driver with a chemical while the second robber held him on the ground. They returned to their vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in an unknown direction.
