Runoffs To Determine Several Statewide, Local Primaries
Tuesday's primary elections sent a few statewide and local elections to runoffs July 17.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Alabama's primary elections Tuesday avoided expected runoffs in some instances - namely the Democratic gubernatorial primary where Walt Maddox emerged victorious - but there are still some primaries that will need to be decided in July 17's runoffs.
One of the more notable - and possibly surprising - runoffs involves incumbent U.S. Congresswoman Martha Roby. Roby failed to secure the GOP nomination outright Tuesday and will have to face Bobby Bright in July. Roby has served in the U.S. House since 2011.
Runoffs will also be held in the Republican primaries for attorney general and lieutenant governor.

Also, what was expected to be a close race for Alabama's House District 54 did not disappoint, as a runoff will be held between Birmingham AIDS Outreach Director Neil Rafferty and Birmingham environmentalist Jacqueline Gray Miller.
Locally, two Jefferson County Commission seats will be determined in the July 17 runoff. District 1 and District 2 will be decided in the runoff, and both of those seats involve current Birmingham City Council members, which means a special election for their replacements if they win.
