School Closings In Birmingham Area: Severe Storms Expected

BIRMINGHAM, AL — With the expectation of some severe storms in the area Monday afternoon, some school systems around Birmingham have announced they will dismiss early or halt after school activity.

Severe storms have been forecast across most of the state for Monday and into Tuesday, with damaging winds and hail possible.

Here is a list of area schools that have announced early closures or cancelled after school activity:

  • Alabaster City Schools : No after school activities; all after school activities will be canceled starting at 5:30 p.m.
  • Glen Iris Baptist School : No after school activities
  • Haleyville City Schools : Closing at 1:30 p.m.; No evening activities
  • Jasper City Schools : Closing at 2:00 p.m.; All after school events are cancelled.
  • Jefferson County Schools : No after school activities
  • Walker County Schools : Closing at 1:30 p.m.
  • Samford University: Closed at 3:30 p.m.
