BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man accused of killing 4-year-old Jurnee Coleman will face a grand jury for indictment consideration following a hearing Tuesday morning. Raymond Shine, 38, is accused of firing into a home July 28 in Gate City and killing the child.

Shine is charged with murder in Jurnee’s death, as well as attempted murder for shooting at Jurnee’s father, Michael Coleman. Shine is also charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, because he pleaded guilty in 2006 to second-degree assault, a felony, and was sentenced to three years in prison

The shooting happened just after 10 p.m. July 28 on Joppa Avenue in the city's Marks Village public housing community. Neighbors say the little girl was inside the apartment and a relative was getting her juice from the refrigerator when two suspects got into a shootout right outside the apartment.

Jones determined there was enough probable cause to send the case against Shine to a grand jury. Shine has remained in the Jefferson County Jail without bond since July 31.
