Teen Charged With Manslaughter In Huffman High School Shooting
Michael Jerome Barber is charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of Courtlin Arrington at Huffman High School Wednesday.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Students returned to school Friday at Huffman High School, minus at least two students who had come to school Wednesday. Senior Courtlin Arrington was shot and killed in the hallway of the school Wednesday by junior Michael Jerome Barber who has been charged today with manslaughter and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol.
The Huffman shooting incident has shaken Birmingham communities throughout the metro area, as people search for answers regarding the tragedy. Huffman High School is equipped with metal detectors, but school officials have said the metal detectors were not used Wednesday, which would explain how barber was able to get the gun into the school.
Mike Anderton, the Jefferson County District Attorney, said, "The District Attorney's Office has examined the investigation of the Birmingham Police Department and the evidence collected by BPD. They have talked with many of the students in the school, in the classroom where the shooting took place and collected evidence from the scene. Based on the evidence as presented to us, warrants were issued for the person responsible for this horrific tragedy."
