Teen Killed In Wylam Shooting: Homicide Ruled Justifiable

A shooting in August that killed an 18-year-old victim has been ruled justifiable by authorities.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A shooting in the Wylam neighborhood of Birmingham over the summer that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old male has been ruled a justifiable homicide. Police say Calvin Vance was shot and killed while attempting to commit a robbery.

Sgt. Johnny Williams said detectives presented information gathered during the investigation to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review, and following the assessment of the information, the DA's office ruled made the ruling.

The incident occurred August 19 just after 8:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Gulfport Street in Wylam. Police found Vance dead on the scene when they arrived.

Williams said no warrants will be pursued in this investigation.
