UA System Not Canceling Classes Amid Conronavirus Scare
While many colleges are canceling classes due to the conronavirus scare, the University of Alabama system is operating on normal schedule.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — While colleges and universities across the country contemplate canceling classes amid the spread of the coronavirus, University of Alabama System officials announced this week there is no such plan to cancel classes at the three schools in the system.
"Academic classes and dining operations will continue as normal," said a statement from the system. "Each campus should review its cleaning procedures to ensure they are up-to-day and consistent with the CDC Recommendations for Institutions of Higher Education."
No confirmed cases have been reported in Alabama, although the number of people actually tested for the virus remains unknown.

Governor Kay Ivey announced Friday the formation of a Coronavirus Task Force comprised of cabinet and state agency officials and medical professionals. The task force held its initial discussion Friday morning.
"The risk of Coronavirus disease remains low in Alabama, and we have been working diligently to prepare for any cases that may occur," said Dr. Scott Harris. "I am very grateful to Governor Ivey for convening this distinguished group of state leaders to help guide us in coordinating our efforts to safeguard the health of all Alabamians."
The UA System’s Interim Emergency Travel Policy, restricting all university-sponsored travel outside the U.S., remains in effect through March 31. If warranted, the UA System will consider waivers on a limited basis for students, faculty and staff, officials said.
