Update: Woman Charged With Murder In Domestic Violence Case

A woman who shot and killed her husband Saturday night has been charged with murder.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A woman who shot and killed her husband Saturday night has now been formally charged with murder, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, deputies responded to a report of a woman shooting her husband in the 200 block of Oak Lane in Sylvan Springs. Deputies arrived to find 41-year-old Keith Hilyer dead on the scene at the end of the street. Amanda Hilyer, 33, remained at the scene and was taken into custody and questioned by sheriffs detectives. The gun used was recovered.

The investigation revealed that the couple had been arguing in the street, Amanda Hilyer broke into a neighbor’s vehicle, stole a handgun and used it to shoot Keith Hilyer, killing him

On Monday, July 16, Sheriff’s detectives obtained arrest warrants formally charging Amanda Hilyer with Murder, Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle, and Theft of Property 2nd Degree. She remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $100,000.
