Woman Charged In Death Of Man Beaten After Carjacking
A strange turn of events led to the death of Jerand Deon Jackson, and a Fairfield woman has now been charged in his death.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - After a strange turn of events led to the death of a Birmingham man June 19, a suspect has been arrested and charged with his murder. Birmingham Keyton Nicole Sparks and charged her with murder in the death of 40-year-old Jerand Deon Jackson.
The chain of events began about 4 a.m. June 19 on Third Avenue North between 10th St. and 11th St., where Jackson was the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro that struck a motorcyclist.
After the initial crash, a second car reportedly drove up and the people inside that car pulled Jackson out of his vehicle, assaulted him, and left him in the roadway. One of the suspects – now identified as Sparks - jumped in the Camaro and drove off, followed by the second car.

This was when an off-duty Birmingham police officer in his private vehicle was driving down Third Avenue and, without seeing the man in the road, ran over Jackson. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Camero was found torched in Fairfield's Mattie Gill Jackson public housing community. An Alabama Media Group report said detectives obtained enough information and evidence to arrest Sparks, but they still don’t know why she did what she did. It doesn’t appear that Sparks and Jackson knew each other.

Sparks was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Wednesday and is being held on $150,000 bond.
