Center Point Man Run Over By Off-Duty Officer After Carjacking

A Center Point Man died after a strange series of events that led to him being run over by an off-duty police officer.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A carjacking and beating would have been bad enough for 40-year-old Jerand Deon Jackson of Center Point. However, that was just the prelude to Jackson being killed when he was run over by an off-duty police officer after being left in the road by his carjackers.

The chain of events began about 4 a.m. Wednesday on Third Avenue North between 10th and 11 Streets. A report by Alabama Media Group said Jackson was the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro that struck a motorcyclist.

After the initial crash, a second car reportedly drove up and the people inside that car pulled Jackson out of his vehicle, assaulted him, and left him in the roadway. This was when an off-duty Birmingham police officer in his private vehicle was driving down Third Avenue and, without seeing the man in the road, ran over Jackson. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
