Woman Hit And Killed By Train In Birmingham

A 68-year-old woman became the second person in a week to be killed by a train in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 68-year-old woman died after she was truck by a train last week in north Birmingham. The incident occurred Thursday night.

An Alabama Media Group report said the victim was identified Monday as Shirley Prewitt Mitchell. Mitchell reportedly sought help after being hit, and then died within the hour. Mitchell was reportedly walking along the railroad tracks in the 3200 block of 29th Avenue North when she was struck. Train officials did not know anyone had been hit.

Mitchell is the second person in a week who has died after being struck by a train in Birmingham. A man was killed Oct. 21 when he was struck by a train on tracks in the 2000 block of 16th Street North in Birmingham.
