(shelbycountyreporter.com) — Chelsea is gearing up for ChelseaFest and The Big Kaboom on Saturday, June 27, now moving to the Lumpkin site at 271 County Road 440 next to Metro Storage. This year’s celebration doubles as an early Fourth of July party and a special salute to America’s 250th birthday, promising a big community turnout and plenty of patriotic fun.

Last Hero location closes, ‘big things' coming to Little Donkey as Pihakis Restaurant Group faces uncertain future in Alabama (cbs42.com) — Chelsea’s new Valley Post entertainment district has already shut down, as Pihakis Restaurant Group closes multiple restaurants and faces multimillion-dollar liens, leaving its future in Alabama uncertain. Chelsea’s mayor calls the loss of businesses a tragedy but stresses it’s not the end for the city, while landlords await word on what comes next for the properties.
3. Briarwood, Oak Mountain girls win golf sectional titles (shelbycountyreporter.com) — Chelsea High’s girls golf team secured the final qualifying spot at the Class 6A, Section 2 championship at Timberline, advancing to next week’s sub-state round. Briarwood’s girls and several other area teams and individuals also moved on, with state tournament berths on the line May 11–12 in Mobile.
4. Firefighters praise Mt. Laurel family for having fire extinguisher after lightning strikes home (wbrc.com) — Chelsea firefighters helped respond after lightning sparked a house fire in nearby Mt. Laurel, where the homeowner had already knocked down the flames with a fire extinguisher. Crews are using the close call to urge Chelsea-area residents to keep extinguishers, working smoke alarms, and a practiced escape plan at home.
