• Childersburg Police Academy graduates first class, considers youth program (sylacauganews.com) — Childersburg residents now have a new way to get an inside look at local law enforcement through the city’s first Citizens Police Academy, which just graduated its inaugural class. The seven-week program mixed classroom lessons with hands-on police, fire, and EMT demonstrations, and the department is already considering a youth academy for ages 13 to 17 and even family sessions if enough locals are interested.
   

• Alabama high schools' NBA Draft history adding another Mr. Basketball (al.com) — Alabama’s long NBA Draft history is adding another chapter this week as former Mr. Basketball Labaron Philon is expected to join more than 100 Alabama high school alumni picked by NBA teams. For Childersburg fans, the piece spotlights hometown star Gerald Wallace, a Childersburg High School standout and 2001 first-round pick, while listing dozens of other in-state greats who reached the league.
