1. Cullman City School Board welcomes new teacher, Lacey K. H. Wood (cullmantribune.com) — Cullman City Schools have hired a new teacher for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and approved a yearlong agreement for school resource officers, shaping safety and support for local families. The board also funded a major Cullman Middle School parking lot project and set its next public meeting for Aug. 18 at the downtown board office. 
2. Cullman water park opens new lazy river expansion (thebamabuzz.com) — Cullman’s WildWater park has opened its new 1,000-foot Paradise Lazy River, significantly expanding capacity and amenities for local families and visitors. With new lounging areas, a bar and grill, and weekend hours through Labor Day, the project is pitched as both family fun and a boost to Cullman’s growing recreation economy.
3. Cullman Police: 3 taken into custody after ‘violent and deliberate' attack on victim (wbrc.com) — Cullman Police say three people are now in custody after a violent home invasion and robbery in a Cullman neighborhood, where a resident suffered serious head and facial injuries. Investigators used license-plate cameras and help from neighboring agencies to track the suspects across Blount and Etowah counties before making the arrests.
4. Wallace State Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Graduates Class of 2026 (wallacestate.edu) — Cullman students are prominently represented in Wallace State’s Occupational Therapy Assistant Class of 2026, with several locals among more than two dozen graduates honored at a pinning ceremony. The program is now accepting applications for fall entry, and fall 2026 classes begin Aug. 17 with multiple registration options and advising support available.
5. AL unemployment reaches highest rate since 2021, data shows (gadsdentimes.com) — Cullman workers are among those hit as Alabama’s unemployment rate climbs to 3.2%, the highest since 2021, with Serta’s Cullman facility cutting 102 jobs. Statewide, more than 1,700 layoffs have been announced so far this year, largely in manufacturing, as companies restructure or struggle financially.
