Here are the top three stories today in Hoover:
- The City of Hoover detailed its emergency plans for the upcoming arctic blast that is expected to hit Central Alabama over the weekend. The outlined emergency plan is available for viewing at the link. If you or someone you know in the Hoover area requires emergency assistance, call Hoover Emergency Communications at (205) 822-5300. (WBRC)
- A local news station showed how quickly freezing temperatures can turn dangerous in preparation for the upcoming winter weather. A former Hoover firefighter said residents should cover up all exposed skin if they are out in the temperatures, as skin can become frostbitten within 30 minutes in these anticipated low temperatures. (WBRC)
- Students from Huffman High School, down the road in Birmingham, volunteered to repair a woman's home. The home was damaged at the end of November and has been uninhabitable since then due to loss of power. The students, who were accompanied by one of their instructors, worked to complete the job rain or shine. They repaired the woman's home so that electricity could be restored and the woman could return home before Christmas. (Alabama's News Leader)
