Hoover Offering Internet Purchase Exchange Stations

The City of Hoover and the Hoover Police Department have established spots where people can exchange internet purchases safely.

HOOVER, AL - The City of Hoover and the Hoover Police Department are announced they have established Internet Purchase Exchange Locations - or "Community Meetup Spots" - at several locations throughout the city. These areas are for people that are buying, selling or trading items on the internet and need a place to meet with someone they might not know. It also eliminates the need for two strangers to exchange items at a home or a residence.

The locations are public, well-lit and have video surveillance. This program helps to ensure that both buyers and sellers can come to in-person transactions with more peace of mind.

Locations:
• City Hall, 100 Municipal Lane. Upper parking lot
• Fire Station 7, 100 Inverness Parkway (Inverness area)
• Fire Station 10, 3537 Market Street (Ross Bridge area)

The HPD would also like to share the following safety tips:

1. Always use common sense with these types of transactions. Keep in mind that you are still meeting with someone you don’t know. Technology should not be a substitute for caution and sound judgment.
2. Avoid going alone. There is safety in numbers, so try not to go by yourself.
3. Try to meet during daytime hours.
4. If you ever feel unsafe, call us immediately.
