Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. New Century Tech High School has made it to the top three of the M3 Math Modeling Challenge in the Technical Computing category. They will compete in the finals to find out which place they will end up being on April 25, and receive between $1000-3000. They also received honorable mention for their submission, which comes with a $1000 prize. (M3 Challenge)
  2. The UAH chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) competed in the Concrete Canoe Races in Auburn, but when they got to the site, the team realized their boat had cracked down the middle. After a fix of around a quarter mile of Duct Tape, the team was able to win second place overall, as well as in the Men’s Slalom, Women’s Slalom, and Men’s Sprint. (WHNT)
  3. Toyota has announced a $222 million expansion to their Huntsville facility. It will be used to create a four-cylinder production line for combustion and hybrid electric engines. (WAAY)
  4. The Huntsville City Council is set to talk about changes to current marijuana possession penalties. According to Huntsville defense attorney Mark McDaniel, around 25% of taxpayer money in Huntsville is going toward paying for nonviolent offenders at $40/day each. (WHNT)
  5. Capshaw Road will be closed temporarily from Wall Triana to Balch Road for utility poles to be installed. The work will be April 26-28 and the road will be closed between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (WAFF)
