Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:
- The Trash Pandas won their first walk-off grand slam win in a home run by David MacKinnon. They beat the Smokies 12-8 in 13 innings. Their winning streak is up to five games and they have won 7 out of 12 games total so far! (WAAY)
- Madison Visionary Partners teamed up with Yellowhammer Brewing Saturday to raise money for the Kids Kingdom Fund. The money will go toward making a park in Madison more accessible and inclusive. Yellowhammer donated a dollar from every purchase of one of their new summer lagers. They plan to break ground in 2022. (WHNT)
- The Huntsville City Council has voted to back a $10 million diversion center that would be the project of Huntsville, the police, and WellStone Behavioral Health. The new center would help serve those with mental difficulties and would be part of the police department’s mental health crisis response plan. There is a temporary location opened and the new center would be finished by July 2022. (USNews)
- Ascend Performance Materials had 100 volunteers working with the Hartsell and Muscle Shoals chapters of Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build beds for children that don’t have a bed to sleep in. With the price of lumber going up, the project was much more costly than in previous years. (WHNT)
- Feline Fanciers Cat Rescue is hosting Kitten Cuddles and Adoption events in the North Alabama area. They host the events at local businesses and breweries. Their next event will be Sunday at Cross-Eyed Owl Brewery in Decatur. (WZDX)
