A City For Every Generation: How A Rapidly Growing Huntsville Is Supporting Its Senior Population (huntsvillebusinessjournal.com) — Huntsville's rapidly growing senior population is driving high demand for local support services, from home safety upgrades to social and wellness programs. Local nonprofits like Enable Madison County, TARCOG, and STUDIO 60 are expanding ramps, case management, and free activities, especially in north Huntsville, while urging more affordable senior housing and community involvement to help older residents stay independent and connected.
2. Obstetrical Emergency Department at Huntsville Hospital marks 10-year milestone (waff.com) — Huntsville Hospital's Obstetrical Emergency Department is marking 10 years of providing specialized emergency care for pregnant and postpartum women, serving about 1,100 patients each month. Staffed by OB-trained nurses, ultrasound techs, and board-certified OB-GYNs, the unit lets local mothers bypass the main ER for faster, more focused treatment during pregnancy complications.
3. Huntsville Housing Authority gets $3M for employment resources (whnt.com) — Huntsville public housing residents in the Northwoods and L.R. Patton communities will soon see expanded job training and career support thanks to a new $3 million federal Jobs Plus grant. The Huntsville Housing Authority plans to connect residents with local employers, tackle barriers to steady work, and help more families share in the city's ongoing economic growth.
4. Huntsville Utilities scraps plan to install battery at Stringfield Road Substation (waff.com) — Huntsville Utilities has dropped plans to install a large Tesla battery at the Stringfield Road Substation in North Huntsville after residents objected to its proximity to homes. The already purchased battery will be relocated elsewhere in the system, with engineers now evaluating new sites and the utility promising to notify affected communities before moving forward.
5. Celebrate autumn at Fall for All with Huntsville Parks & Recreation (huntsvilleal.gov) — Families in Huntsville can mark their calendars for Fall for All, a free Parks & Recreation festival at Big Spring Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids can enjoy games, prizes, live music, photo spots, and food trucks, offering a relaxed way to celebrate autumn together in downtown Huntsville.
