Here are the top five stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The City of Huntsville has been tight-lipped about how much longer Ben Darby will be on the payroll as a police officer after his on-the-job murder conviction. They must go through a disciplinary process that is necessary for terminating someone, but have said no date has been set for that hearing. The city has not responded to WHNT’s Brian Lawson’s questions on if Chief McMurray has requested Darby’s termination or whether the city was waiting for Darby’s appeals process to end. (WHNT)
  2. A man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly drunk driving and crashing into the back of a police SUV while the officer was conducting a traffic stop. The SUV was forced into the back of the second patrol SUV. One of the police vehicles was severely damaged and there was an officer in the other who suffered minor injuries. (WAFF)
  3. City officials in Huntsville have dedicated a historic marker to celebrate the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. According to Kelly Kennedy, the marker can be found downtown on Greene Street. (WZDX)
  4. UAH has selected their first two Honors College Prevost Scholars. Tiffany Dinh and Michael Sorrell are two of the top students in the Honors College and have highly sought after internships. (WHNT)
  5. Anyone with access to the Arsenal can compete in their summer reading program this year. The program runs from May 18- July 24, and because it had to be cancelled last year, there will be double the prizes this year! The goal is to read as many hours as you can, whether that is being read to, listening to audio books, or old fashioned reading to yourself, the individuals with the most hours logged will be given prizes, according to Emily Strickland.
