Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Highlands Elementary School is not ready for students to return. The building is still under construction for a new roof. All Highlands students will be attending classes at Calvary Hills for the beginning of school. (WAFF)
  2. The Redstone Arsenal has reinstated mask requirements for employees and visitors. This decision follows the U.S. Secretary of Defense’s latest guidelines that were distributed to facilities under the Department of Defense. (WHNT)
  3. The lawsuit regarding Nigel Shelby, the Huntsville student who took his own life, was amended from nine defendants down to two. The remaining defendants are the Huntsville City Board of Education and the former Freshman Academy principal, Jo Stafford. (WAFF)
  4. Calhoun Community College will now offer ten full-tuition scholarships for their esports program. The program was launched Fall 2020, and the new season is scheduled to begin in September. (News Courier)
  5. CNI Solutions is offering free braiding for students on August 1 to get them ready for the new school year. Slots must be claimed ahead of time and students will be fed lunch. (WZDX)
