Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Despite over 500 students and staff in the Madison County School System being COVID positive, parents showed up at the board meeting to use their voices. Some parents were saying science does not support masks or that masks cause problems instead of solving them, and others just did not want the board making the choice for them and their families. (WHNT)
  2. Dr. Pam Hudson, the CEO of Crestwood Medical Center has said that they are struggling with a shortage of bedside nurses. According to Dr. Hudson, they don’t have a shortage of beds (right now), they just lack the staff to care for patients in the beds. (WZDX)
  3. The intersection of Jordan and Homer Nance roads will be closed Monday through Friday next week. Detour signs will guide you around by using Ryland Pike. (WHNT)
  4. Huntsville City Schools has announced that starting Monday, they will start sending “close contact” students and staff home to quarantine. This will follow the definition of a “close contact” from the ADPH, which would include anyone within three feet of a positive (or presumed positive) case, but excludes fully vaccinated asymptomatic individuals and those that consistently wear a mask indoors and maintain a distance of at least three feet. (WHNT)
  5. According to the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, the ADPH has recommended a vaccine booster for individuals with weakened immune systems. This specifically addresses the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, but not the Johnson & Johnson. (Patch)
