Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The City of Huntsville’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering FREE after-school child care at nine recreation center locations. The kids will be given snacks and an outlet to socialize. (WAAY)
  2. Athens City Schools Superintendent Beth Patton has announced that she will be recommending that the school system require masks starting August 10. The recommendation will be made just in time for school to start back on August 11. (WAFF)
  3. Huntsville Hospital’s president has released updated policies on visitor and surgery policies at Madison County hospitals due to the increase in COVID numbers. Visitors will be limited when possible and all elective surgeries that will require an overnight stay and any in-patient selective surgeries will be postponed. (WAFF)
  4. Mike Blakely filed for a mistrial, but the request was denied. Blakely remains in the Limestone County Jail. (WAFF)
  5. An ATM was stolen from the Redstone Federal Credit Union on Wynn. It was then found at the Huntsville Amphitheater construction site. There is footage of an individual, but no suspect has been identified. (WAAY)
