Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Rep. Robert Aderholt has announced the funding of 14 projects in North Alabama. One of the projects is for Huntsville-based Institute for Digital Enterprise Advancement's proposed Systems Engineering Technology Apprenticeship and Internship Program. This would make working/learning more accessible in rural areas. (WAFF 48 News)
  2. Thanks to a $250,000 grant from Dekko Foundation, the City of Athens will be able to turn the abandoned site of a chicken plant into a park. The approval came after the purchase of the former Pilgrim's Pride location. After cleaning up the asbestos, dilapidated buildings and holding ponds, the 32-acres will make way for Sunrise Park.   3. In the first seven days of 2023, Huntsville Fire and Rescue has already had 399 total calls. According to its breakdown, 252 of those were rescue and EMS-related incidents, with 16 fire calls and 84 false alarms being some of the other calls. (Huntsville Fire and Rescue via Facebook)

  • The Rocket City Trash Pandas are hosting another Business Mixer in partnership with Huntsville-Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Leadership Greater Huntsville, and the Madison Chamber of Commerce next month at Toyota Field from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (Details)
