Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- The Huntsville City Council has approved the proposed budget. This year’s budget has a 7.1% increase from last year’s, making it the largest budget in city history. Councilman Keith proposed an amendment to the budget that would give each district $75,000 in discretionary funds, but it was not approved. (WHNT News 19)
- A construction contract to build the new transit transfer station has been approved! The new station will be on Pratt Avenue. According to the contract, construction will start within 10 days of the company receiving the notice to proceed, and will be completed within one year of starting. (Patch Press Release Desk)
- Limestone County’s marketing video, “Pick Your Pace - Limestone County, Alabama,” has received state and regional awards for public relations! They won an Award of Merit through the Public Relations Council of Alabama Medallion Awards, as well as an Award of Excellence from the Southern Public Relations Federation’s Lantern’s Awards. - Two HudsonAlpha researchers have received a grant from the Muscular Dystrophy Association to refine techniques used to diagnose Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders. The nearly $300,000 grant will help fund this project for three years to look at genome sequencing and if long-read sequencing is more accurate in diagnosis than short-read sequencing. - The Tanner High School Band has received all superior ratings in competition at the Northeast Alabama Marching Invitational! They also received Best in Class Percussion and ranked second out of eight bands in their band classification. (News Courier)
