Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- The Huntsville City Council voted to delay Mayor Tommy Battle's appointment of Kirk Giles as the police chief. Giles is the current interim chief, but citizen comments called for a deeper review, and wanted more diversity from the consideration of candidates that come from outside of the department. - Three Huntsville City Schools received failing grades from their state report cards. Chapman Middle School received a 51, Ronald McNair was given a 59 and Sonnie Hereford Elementary got a 59. The district as a whole received a B average. (WHNT News 19)
- A new massive Starbucks is planned for MidCity! The 2500-square-foot location will feature a drive-thru and you can expect it to open as soon as next summer. (AL.com)
- After a ruling from the Court of Criminal Appeals, former Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely's application to have his case reheard and moved back to circuit court has been denied. The basis of his application was on the presiding judge's legitimacy. (WAFF)
