Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Huntsville city council approved a proposal to donate a 14 acre plot of land to Huntsville City Schools. The plan is to build a new central office for the district as well as a new career tech academy. Construction is set to start within the next year, and they are expected to be ready by the start of the fall 2023 semester as long as there are no supply chain delays. (Huntsville City Schools)
  2. The Alabama A&M Small Farms Research Center has received over $198,000 from the U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA). This money will be used to help educated underserved minority in the state on climate-smart practices and and risk management. (WHNT News 19)
  3. BancorpSouth and Cadence Bank will be drop-off locations for a pet food drive throughout September. The drive is for the Greater Huntsville Humane Society (GHHS) King’s Community Kitchen, and Two Men and a Truck will be transporting all donated food back to GHHS on October 3. (WZDX)
  4. Burress Road will be closing between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. September 6-9. The closure will affect the road from Cobb Road to Berkley Road. (WAFF)
  5. Oakwood University Church is collecting bottled water to help residents in Jackson, Mississippi. You can take donations by the church today and tomorrow from 12-3 p.m. (WAFF)
