Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- Last night (August 16), a man approached a Decatur Police Department officer’s home in a vehicle. The officer retrieved his weapon and returned to make contact with the driver, and was struck by the vehicle. The driver was placed under arrest and the officer was transported to Huntsville Hospital, where he was expected (but not confirmed) to be released last night. (Decatur Police Department)
- Huntsville Hospital filed a claim for over $40 million in loss during the pandemic to receive American Rescue Plan Act funds, but only received around $2 million. According to the CEO, Jeff Samz, they did not expect the full $40 million because that was the total amount available to be split between 100 hospitals and there just isn’t enough to go around. - Amerigo, an Italian restaurant, is the first restaurant that will open at Hays Farm! They are set to start serving on August 29. This will be their first location in the state. (AL.com)
- The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber’s 2022 Best Places to Work Awards took place yesterday! Two companies entered into the Hall of Fame and there were 15 winners named- three in each category. (WHNT News 19)
- Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will have food boxes to give away Saturday morning starting at 7:30. They will have 200 boxes and it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. (WHNT News 19)
