Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. Discovery Life Sciences, a Huntsville-based company, is helping some of their Ukrainian employees escape the country. They've arranged housing on both sides of the border, hired private buses, offered to fly them anywhere in the world, and even set up bank accounts for them to receive their paychecks. The CEO, Glenn Bilawsky, has asked anyone willing to donate, do so to their group Discovery Cares and they will triple it to help their employees. (WAFF)
  2. The Madison County Commission is meeting today and will look at approving $240,000 worth of grants that would help all the volunteer fire departments in the area. The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. (WAAY)
  3. The Madison County Sheriff's Office is working to improve the ratio of deputies to citizens in the county as well as how many miles those deputies would have to drive in a shift. They are getting 49 new vehicles to replace the older cars and are also looking to hire a few new deputies. (WAFF)
  4. Avoid Memorial Parkway this morning between Max Luther Drive and Mastin Lake Road. Huntsville Utilities will start maintenance on streetlights at 8 a.m. and it is expected to last until 1 p.m. (WAAY)
  5. There will be a distribution of food and at-home COVID tests at the Huntsville Family Health Center starting at 11 a.m. The items are being distributed by the Central North Alabama Health Services Inc. Health System and the Food Bank of North Alabama. (WAAY)
