Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- The Department of Justice has ordered that Madison County Schools to fix discriminatory processes in the system. After the latest review during a school desegregation case, they found that everything from how the system handles discipline, to hiring practices, to determining gifted education need to be bettered to ensure all students have a fair chance. Many of these new practices will be in effect in the upcoming school year. (WHNT)
- Huntsville City Councilman Devyn Keith has invited District 1 residents to participate in "A Cut Above," a landscaping challenge. Participants can sign up here to compete in the different categories. (Patch)
- Calhoun Community College has partnered with the Alabama Department of Health to start offering free dental cleanings. The cleanings will be available for ages 17 and under as well as expectant mothers and will be done by seniors in the dental hygiene students. (themadisonrecord.com)
- The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a job fair July 18-19. This fair is in collaboration with different organizations in an effort to bridge the gap between individuals with few resources that need a job and employers looking to hire.
