Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:

  1. The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville gave out 11 grants to organizations for the 2021 Racial Equity Fund grant series. The money was awarded to organizations in the community that help underserved populations and fill gaps where they are needed. (Madison Record)
  2. Donald Trump Jr. paid a visit to the Rocket City Saturday. He was the guest speaker at the Tennessee Valley Hunting and Fishing Expo. The expo was cancelled last year, but having Trump Jr. there brought people in from as far away as Kansas this year. (WAFF)
  3. Over the weekend, a three-story apartment building burned down. The building was under construction and was found off of Old Gurley Road and Voyager Lane. No injuries or fatalities were reported. (WAFF)
  4. The Food Bank of North Alabama is still struggling to catch up after the pandemic, as well as balance the extra need that comes during the summer when students are home. The food bank is also trying to come up with long-term solutions to help the community need the help less. (WHNT)
  5. Eric Carden of Huntsville left in May to head to California to turn back and ride his glider all the way across the country. Along the way, he got stranded for a month in Texas because gliders rely on very specific wind and heat patterns to be able to move. He made it back to Alabama on Saturday and when conditions are right, Carden and his team plan to finish out the journey to the coast.
