Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Alabama State Department of Education data shows that Huntsville City Schools only has 76% of third graders reading on grade level. That's 2% below the state average, and the same data shows Madison County Schools has 86% and Madison City Schools is at 92% of third graders reading on grade level. (WAAY)
  2. Limestone County teacher Jason Emerson has been terminated following an executive session of the school board. The reasons are unknown at this time, but Superintendent Shearouse’s motion was supported unanimously. (News Courier)
  3. The North Alabama Zoological Society has received a $17,000 donation from Collins Aerospace. The funds will be used to support their education programs, and a smaller portion will be used to maintain the organization as a nonprofit. (themadisonrecord.com)
  4. Eggs Up Grill has opened their first Alabama location! The franchise is in Madison in the Madison Commons Shopping center and will be open from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. and they’re currently hiring. (themadisonrecord.com)
  5. An inmate at the Limestone Correctional Facility was stabbed Friday. He was found unresponsive in his bed and taken to the hospital, where the injury was discovered. There is no word on his condition at this time. (WHNT)
