Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- There was an explosion very early this morning on Moores Mill Road at the building of a company that tests pressurized tanks. There were no injuries, but there was damage to the building closest to the explosion. A portion of Stanwood Road was closed overnight, so if you’re traveling through the area, be aware! (WAAY)
- On October 15, the Hispanic Business Alliance of North Alabama will be hosting a business expo with opportunities for employment and networking. October 15 is the final day of Hispanic Heritage Month. The expo will be at Big Spring Park East from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. (WHNT News 19)
- Saturday, women gathered in Huntsville to participate in a national women’s rights march. This march was happening in cities across the country to protest the criminalization of abortions. Many protesters signed a resolution carried by Councilmember Frances Akridge that would “deprioritize using police and city resources to investigate pregnancy outcomes,” which is set to be presented to the Huntsville City Council on October 15. - Landers McLarty has partnered with Rose of Sharon to give out over 200 blessing bags! The bags full of food and hygiene necessities and toys for children are handed out in low-income areas. (WHNT News 19)
- Alabama A&M students are alleging that conditions at Palmer Hall (a dorm on campus) are not sanitary, especially the bathrooms. Since the students went to WHNT about the issues, most of the bathrooms have been fixed, but the bathrooms on the second floor are expected to be fixed and reopened by tomorrow. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
