Here are the top stories in Huntsville today:
- The former Marshall Space Flight Center headquarters is scheduled for demolition this Saturday. The building has served as the headquarters for 63 years, with the first employees moving in for work in 1963. (WAFF)
- Alabama A&M University has received a $500,000 check for historic preservation. The funding comes from the National Park Services’ Historic Preservation Fund, which seeks to give out $2.5 million each year divided between five HBCUs in the state. The check was presented by U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell at the kickoff of the Magic City Classic on Wednesday. (AL.com)
- An amendment was passed Tuesday by the planning commission that would limit which districts would be authorized to have medical cannabis dispensaries. The amendment also states that dispensaries would not be allowed to open within 300 feet of the front door of another or 1,000 feet from protected properties (like schools). (Subscription: AL.com)
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s College of Engineering has received the “Next General Review” for the seven undergraduate programs they had under review by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
