Here are the top three stories today in Huntsville:

  1. The Jones family, who own the revered farmland in east Huntsville, have clarified that there are no plans to sell any land in Jones Valley or for new development, contrary to some misinformation on social media. However, they have decided to step back from cattle farming and focus on crop farming. The family has stated that their focus will continue to be deliberate and forward-thinking, but change is unavoidable and the future of the farm may involve some development. (Alabama)
  2. The Land Trust of North Alabama has announced that it has conserved over 10,000 acres of land in the region, thanks to a recent donation of a 144-acre property in Huntsville from Concord Land Development. The land donation brings the organization to this conservation milestone and becomes the Land Trust's tenth public nature preserve. Marie Bostick, executive director of the Land Trust of North Alabama, said conserving land in the core of the community, even with a surge in development, exemplifies the values of the community in preserving natural lands. (Harvard Business Journal)
  3. The Goss Road Pool is opening for the summer season, with a kickoff party on May 26 featuring free refreshments and games with prizes. The pool is available to anyone with access to Redstone Arsenal and includes a water slide, two diving boards, a kiddy pool, and a sun shelter. Season swimming passes will go on sale May 8, with special prices for active-duty military members and their families, and one-day admission is also available to all. (Redstone Rocket)
