Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Kirk Giles, the interim police chief, was approved by the city council in a 3-0 vote, with councilmembers John Meredith and Devyn Keith abstaining from the vote. He has been named the permanent Huntsville Police Department Police Chief. (AL.com)
  2. The Huntsville Hospital System currently has over 1,400 job openings right now across the system. Registered nurse positions account for over 600 of those open positions, with the greatest need being at Huntsville Hospital. (WHNT News 19)
  3. The Madison City School Board approved a bid for over $7 million, which will be used to renovate West Madison Elementary School. The renovated building will be used as a pre-K center for the district. With around 21-23 classrooms, the new building will nearly double the current capacity for pre-K in the Madison City School District. (WAFF)
