Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. As of writing (11 p.m.), the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office’s phones are down. They ask that you call (256)321-2367, but they can only answer one call at a time so be patient. (WAFF)
  2. The Madison County EMA has been preparing for the weather from Hurricane Ida. Should there be severe weather, storm shelters will encourage COVID precautions but will not turn anyone away for not wearing a mask. (WAAY)
  3. According to Stephen Gallien at WAAY, Mike Blakely has requested a new trial. His team has cited issues with a fair trial, such as closing the courtroom to the media for a day and a half, which potentially impedes his right to a public trial. (WAAY)
  4. Hurricane Ida has set back the closure of Balch and Gillespie until September 7. It is planned to be closed through September 30. (themadisonrecord.com)
  5. Demand for houses in the Rocket City area has far surpassed the demand. Between the population explosion and all the companies moving to Huntsville, houses are selling for almost 15% more than last year and are only staying on the market an average of 12 days. If you need to sell, now is your market! (WAFF)
