Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- Huntsville City Council Members discussed how to go forward with the ability to fire employees (specifically law enforcement) without a disciplinary hearing after the Darby case. After consulting a lawyer, a way to do so without legal issues was not found. (WHNT)
- Huntsville Animal Services has reduced adoption fees for dogs and puppies. Dogs will be $10 and puppies will be between $35-50. This will help lower the number of dogs in the shelter and make room for more. (WZDX)
- The Solid Waste Disposal Authority and the recycling program for Huntsville, Madison City, and Madison County has received grant funding. Huntsville and Madison County received $200,000 each and Madison City received $100,000. This money will help purchase rolling carts to use for their new automated program. (themadisonrecord.com)
- Applications are open for the Athens Mayor’s Youth Council. Students must be in 10-12 grade. New member applications are due September 13. (quadcitiesdaily.com)
- Calhoun Community College is offering students and employees $150 if they get fully vaccinated. The deadline is October 15 to submit photos of your vaccination card and payments will go out on November 30. (WZDX)
