Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- About 500 people attended a ceremony this weekend to unveil a marker to remember the first six African American women to vote. These women voted over 100 years ago and the marker to honor that work will stand at William Councill Memorial Park for hopefully 100 years to come. (WHNT)
- On October 29, Bob Jones is hosting a fall blood drive! This year’s event was named the “Starve a Vampire Blood Drive” and is a partnership with LifeSouth. (themadisonrecord.com)
- Madison County and the surrounding areas are still at substantial risk on the COVID-19 map. This means even though hospital numbers are down, there is still a high rate of transmission in North Alabama. (WHNT)
- The Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church gave away $3000 in gas over the weekend. People lined up and the first 150 cars were given $20 worth of gas in the church’s first “Gas on God” event. (WAAY)
- In this weekend’s Drug Take-Back Day, 1200 pounds of medicine were turned in and destroyed. This is a chance to safely get rid of unused or old prescriptions. (WHNT)
