Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Over 1,200 students and members of the staff in the Madison City School System are currently being excluded from school activities due to exposure to COVID-19. However, Superintendent Nichols noted that the number would have been doubled at least if they didn’t have masking procedures. (WHNT)
  2. Huntsville City Council Members for the City Of Huntsville voted Thursday to create the Office Of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. It will be led by Director Kenny Anderson, the current Multicultural Affairs Officer for the city. (Patch)
  3. Waste Away Dumpster Services has hit the bridge on Gallatin Street that connects the Blackwell Medical Tower to Huntsville Hospital. This is the second time that company has hit that bridge, with the first being in 2019. (WAAY)
  4. Madison County Circuit Judge Donna Pate, the judge in charge of the William Darby trial, is considering releasing the bodycam footage to the public. The city has denied requests to do so, but because it was evidence, the judge might release it especially since attendance at the trial was limited due to COVID. (AL.com)
  5. City Councilman Devyn Keith addressed the J.O. Johnson controversy at Thursday’s city council meeting. He made sure people were aware all legal avenues were taken and input was welcomed and invited throughout the process. Keith also acknowledged the harassment his family has faced this week because of this situation. (WHNT)
