Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. A study by Stessa shows that Huntsville leads the country’s metropolitan areas in the rate of economic recovery. Huntsville’s unemployment levels are now back to pre-COVID levels, while the country as a whole is still behind. (Patch)
  2. The jury started deliberating this afternoon in the case against Mike Blakely. They dismissed after three hours and will resume Monday at 9 a.m. (al.com)
  3. The CEO of Huntsville Hospital has now written to ask citizens to choose being vaccinated over getting sick. The hospital’s numbers are growing by the day and most are unvaccinated. (WAAY)
  4. Huntsville’s bike-sharing service is thriving! The city is working to create more bike lanes and get more blue bikes. As of now, there is a five mile round-trip ride through the city. (WAFF)
  5. A teacher going home from Space Camp had what she claims was a discriminatory experience at Huntsville International Airport. She was told her airline did not give accommodations when flights are delayed overnight, but a male colleague was given food vouchers and hotel accommodations. An investigation is currently underway.
