Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Limestone County took a second try at drawing their redistricting lines after the NAACP backlash about District 3’s black population. The first map was created using software that factored in population, but not minority percentages. The new lines for District 3 have taken the black population from 20% currently to 21% and the new map will be available at the next commission meeting. (WAFF)
  2. Priceville’s cross country boys and girls teams both made school history last week! The girls qualified for state for the first time ever by coming in third place, and the boys took home first place which also got them an invite to state! (Hartselle Enquirer)
  3. Huntsville Junior High School is fighting food insecurity from the inside, with the help of First Baptist and Publix. The school has opened a grocery store for students where everything is bought with points the kids earn from good behavior and service at school. (WHNT)
  4. The Becky Streetman Center is a new place in Huntsville that focuses on treating eating disorders. This center is different because instead of only treating the patient, they teach the family and friends how to be helpful for the patient’s recovery. (WAAY)
  5. Paul Sanford has joined the list of contenders for Congressman Mo Brooks’s seat in the US House. He is a former Alabama Senator that represented most of Huntsville. (WAFF)
