Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:

  1. Huntsville local Joe R. Ritch has been announced as President Biden’s choice to be on the Tennessee Valley Authority. Ritch previously served on the Tennessee Valley Authority Board from 2013-2017, when the senate failed to confirm his reappointment. He was chairman of the board starting in 2014. If Ritch is confirmed, he will be filling a vacant term that ends in 2025. (Federal News Network)
  2. Madison Area Lions Club made a donation to Madison City Schools. They collected supplies to help school nurses in the district stay stocked on supplies needed to help sick and injured students. (themadisonrecord.com)
  3. July 2022 has been named the hottest July on record in Huntsville. Previously, the record was held by July 1930. There were only three days with a temperature below 92 degrees and we only had 1.62 inches of rain for the whole month. (WHNT News 19)
  4. Biology labs at Alabama A&M University will be conducted using Meta Quest 2 virtual reality sets. Alabama A&M is one of 10 universities in the country to partner with VictoryXR and the Meta Immersive Learning technology. Each student in those labs will be given a headset to use during the course that will allow them to be in the classroom, take notes, and interact with the building like they would if they were there.   5. There are currently around 50 road projects in Huntsville in the planning stages of the process. These projects together total around $700 million in costs. One project, to add interchanges at Moores Mill and Shields on 72, will cost around $121 million and would not be started until 2051. (AL.com)
